Is the climate warming or cooling?

چکیده

[1] Numerous websites, blogs and articles in the media have claimed that the climate is no longer warming, and is now cooling. Here we show that periods of no trend or even cooling of the globally averaged surface air temperature are found in the last 34 years of the observed record, and in climate model simulations of the 20 and 21 century forced with increasing greenhouse gases. We show that the climate over the 21 century can and likely will produce periods of a decade or two where the globally averaged surface air temperature shows no trend or even slight cooling in the presence of longer-term warming. hanks to the release of Al Gore's latest effort on global warming – this time in book and movie form – climate change is the hot topic in press rooms around the globe. It isn't the first time. The media have warned about impending climate doom four different times in the last 100 years. Only they can't decide if mankind will die from warming or cooling. As the noise from the controversy has inc...

Simulating the Influence of Greenhouse Gases on the Climate of West Africa

The response of climate to perturbations in GHGs is location dependent. Six experiments: control (CTRL); double CH4; double CO2; double N2O; halved CFC11 and halved CFC12 were carried out to reveal the local area response to different GHGs levels in the atmosphere over West Africa. Double CH4, CO2 and N2O generally induce wetness but they also induce localized dryness at the hilly and mountaino...

Responses of Bacterial Communities to Simulated Climate Changes in Alpine Meadow Soil of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

The soil microbial community plays an important role in terrestrial carbon and nitrogen cycling. However, microbial responses to climate warming or cooling remain poorly understood, limiting our ability to predict the consequences of future climate changes. To address this issue, it is critical to identify microbes sensitive to climate change and key driving factors shifting microbial communiti...

Calcareous nannofossil assemblages of the Late Campanian- Early Maastrichtian form Gurpi Formation (Dezful embayment, SW Iran): Evidence of a climate cooling event

A succession of Late Campanian- Early Maastrichtian is analyzed from Gurpi Formation with regard to the calcareous nannofossils. Correlation Matrix was applied for the first time to the entire nannofossil assemblage to reconstruct environmental conditions. A detailed quantitative calcareous nannofossil analyses is performed on samples in order to further investigate the climate events, and inte...
